Inauguration of a Clean Energy Network
In a major boost to India's sustainable energy transition, the Prime Minister inaugurated the first phase of the National Green Hydrogen Grid Network. This massive pipeline infrastructure directly connects green hydrogen production plants in Gujarat and Rajasthan to major industrial manufacturing zones in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
Decarbonizing Heavy Industries
The grid is specifically designed to supply continuous clean energy to hard-to-abate sectors like steel manufacturing, chemical plants, and oil refineries. By replacing gray hydrogen with zero-emission green hydrogen, the project aims to eliminate millions of tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, aligning with India's strict international climate goals for 2030.
Global Investments and Future Outlook
International clean energy consortiums have pledged billions of dollars to support the expansion of this grid. The government has also rolled out production-linked incentive (PLI) schemes to encourage local manufacturing of advanced electrolyzers, ensuring self-reliance in the green tech manufacturing supply chain.
