Former India cricketer Mohammed Kaif has made a compelling case for the inclusion of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in India's squad for the 2027 World Cup. According to a report by the Times of India, Kaif believes that both veteran batters remain absolute essentials for the upcoming campaign, particularly due to the demanding and challenging conditions expected in South Africa.
The Messi Comparison
Highlighting their immense value to the national team, Kaif drew a direct parallel between the Indian duo and football icon Lionel Messi. Just as Messi was instrumental for Argentina on the global stage, Kaif argued that Rohit and Kohli possess the same match-winning aura and irreplaceable stature that can guide India toward ultimate glory.
Experience Vital in South Africa
The Times of India noted that Kaif emphasized the unmatched worth of experience when playing on foreign soil. Navigating the tricky pitches and high-pressure environment of South Africa will require seasoned heads who have seen it all at the highest level of international cricket.
Mentoring the Next Generation
Beyond their own run-scoring abilities, Kaif pointed out that these experienced players offer crucial guidance on and off the field. Their presence helps create valuable opportunities and eases the transition for younger teammates stepping into the international spotlight. Under the leadership of captain Shubman Gill, India will heavily rely on the calming influence and strategic acumen of these two stalwarts.
