According to a report by the Times of India, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has recently highlighted India's robust defence preparedness and growing commitment to self-reliance. As the nation continues to strengthen its domestic manufacturing capabilities, strategic initiatives are yielding significant financial commitments and operational advancements across the sector.
Massive Investments in Defence Corridors
Proposals for staggering investments worth Rs 70,000 crore have been put forward for the dedicated defence corridors located in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Highlighting the rapid progress on the ground, the Defence Minister noted that an impressive Rs 10,000 crore has already been successfully invested in these industrial hubs.
These specialized corridors are playing a pivotal role in fostering indigenous manufacturing and driving global integration. By building local ecosystems for research, development, and production, the corridors are positioning India as an emerging hub for advanced defence technology.
Operational Success and Indigenous Production
Demonstrating the tangible results of domestic innovation, advanced systems such as Akash Teer and BrahMos were effectively utilized during Operation Sindoor. These deployments underscore the operational readiness and reliability of home-grown military hardware in real-world scenarios.
To further accelerate domestic production, the government has implemented positive indigenisation lists alongside a new Defence Acquisition Procedure. In a major boost to local manufacturers, seventy-five percent of the defence modernisation budget is now dedicated to supporting Indian industries.
