Introduction
Lenovo continues to occupy a distinct lane in the consumer electronics sector by producing a dedicated gaming tablet. Expectations were high following previous iterations of this hardware line, and the newly launched Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 5 aims to satisfy those demands.
While engineered specifically for gaming enthusiasts, this compact device doubles as a robust everyday tablet. Featuring a high-performance Snapdragon processor and extended battery longevity, it challenges traditional notions of portable computing capabilities.
What Happened
The hardware maker has officially released the Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 5, introducing a series of significant performance enhancements over past models. Priced at $679.99, the device reflects a notable price increase from the Gen 3 version, which retailed at $549.99. Industry analysts attribute this upward adjustment to the ongoing global memory crisis impacting hardware manufacturers.
Despite the higher cost, the device delivers substantial computational power within its 8.8-inch screen framework. Reviewers tested the hardware across rigorous workloads, including high-definition video streaming and live sports broadcasts, noting that the machinery handles demanding digital tasks without noticeable performance degradation.
Background
The Legion Tab series builds upon Lenovo's established ecosystem of gaming computers, scaling high-end processing power down into a smaller, highly portable form factor. Past generations earned positive industry feedback for offering dedicated gaming features in a tablet configuration.
The newly introduced Gen 5 model relies heavily on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform Processor. According to industry experts monitoring Windows laptops, Qualcomm's recent silicon advancements have enabled competing mobile devices to rival the processing power traditionally associated with Apple's MacBook lineup.
Key Details
The hardware features an 8.8-inch 3K PureSight display rated at 800 nits of peak brightness. Internal specifications include 12GB of memory and 256GB of onboard storage, operating on the Android 16 platform.
In benchmark testing using Geekbench 6, the device achieved a single-core score of 3,655 and a multi-core score of 10,758. Power management testing demonstrated a continuous battery life lasting 12 hours and 24 minutes under review conditions.

Physical design elements include dual USB-C ports, allowing users to charge the hardware simultaneously while connecting wired headphones or an external controller. The device ships with a lightweight protective case featuring a removable screen cover that doubles as a stand.
Impact
The processing capabilities of the Legion Tab Gen 5 place its performance benchmarks well above standard tablet offerings, effectively closing the performance gap traditionally held by laptops. Its multi-core Geekbench score outpaces baseline Apple iPad hardware and enters territory shared by MacBook systems.
However, practical evaluation revealed minor hardware quirks. Reviewers observed intermittent touchscreen unresponsiveness near the center of the display during casual mobile gaming applications, alongside slightly tinny built-in audio output that benefits from external headphone usage. Furthermore, the bundled protective cover received mixed feedback due to its limited stability and single viewing angle.
What Happens Next
Consumers looking to purchase the hardware can acquire the device directly through official retail channels. Prospective buyers who do not require dedicated gaming performance may consider alternative options within Lenovo's ecosystem, such as the Yoga Tab, which offers an alternative feature set at a lower price point of $419.99.
