ISRO Announces Launch Date for Shukrayaan-1 Venus Orbiter Mission

Exploring the Mysterious Atmosphere of Venus

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has officially finalized the launch window for Shukrayaan-1, India's first orbiter mission to the planet Venus. Scheduled for liftoff aboard the LVM3 rocket from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in December 2026, the mission aims to study the dense, scorched atmosphere of Earth's twin planet and search for active volcanic signs on its surface.

Advanced Scientific Payloads

Shukrayaan-1 will carry over a dozen sophisticated scientific payloads, including synthetic aperture radars and infrared spectrometers developed in collaboration with premier international space agencies. The primary objective is to map the Venusian sub-surface and analyze the high-altitude cloud layers for the presence of phosphine and other potential biomarkers that have long puzzled planetary scientists worldwide.

Boosting India's Deep Space Capabilities

Following the tremendous successes of Chandrayaan and Mangalyaan, this Venusian quest solidifies India's position as a dominant force in planetary exploration. ISRO Chairman Dr. S. Somanath stated that the engineering teams are entering the final integration phase, ensuring all systems withstand the intense heat and corrosive environment near Venus.
